Solo & Ensemble Schedule 2025

Solo and Ensemble Information

The Eastshore Solo and Ensemble Festival will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025.  It will be hosted by Mt. Si High School and will be on their campus 8651 Meadowbrook Way SE in Snoqualmie, WA 98065.  Students who sign up will receive a 10-minute time slot per solo or ensemble group, which will allow time for both the performance and a clinic with the judge. The performance must be less than 10 minutes long, but ideally between 4-7 minutes long.  Students only need to be at the festival for the time they are warming up and performing.  The event is free and open to the public, and students and their families are welcome to stay and listen to other performers as well.

For students who are planning on performing a solo, an accompanist is highly recommended.  Having an accompanist is an important part of the experience and will make the performance complete.  Accompanists can be someone the student already knows or can be hired from the list below.  Please know who your accompanist is before you turn in your registration form, as it is important for scheduling to know all of the accompanists who will be playing that day.

The cost for the festival is $20 per soloist, and an ensemble costs $26 + $2 per student in an ensemble (a duet is $30, a trio is $32, etc.)  The fee will be added to your account based upon your registration and can be paid online in Touchbase (linked here) or by check. Checks should be made payable to Newport High School and turned in to the Newport ASB Office before turning in your registration form.

Things to do on Saturday, February 1:

BEFORE YOUR PERFORMANCE

  1. Arrive early (plan on being there AT LEAST 30 minutes before your performance time).  That way you can find your room, warm-up, etc.
  2. Dress nice.  You will be performing in front of an audience and representing yourself and your school – so make a good impression!  Wear something nice (like something you might wear to church) or you can wear what we wear at band concerts.
  3. Bring everything you need:
  4. Your instrument (the performance is at Mt. Si High School, so you must bring your instrument from school/home)
  5. Your music
  6. A copy of your music for the judge
  7. Anything else you may need for your specific instrument (valve oil, extra reeds, etc.)

DURING YOUR PERFORMANCE

  1. Stay Focused.  It’s easy to be distracted by friends or family in the audience or by the judge.  Remember to keep your mind on your music and you can talk to them about how your performance went after it is over.
  2. Tune to the piano, or if an ensemble, tune to each other.  Take as much time as you need.  Relax, take a few deep breathes, adjust your music stand to how you like it.
  3. Introduce yourself and your accompanist before you perform.  Just say your name(s), what school you are from and what piece you will be playing.
  4. Be confident.  Even if you make a mistake or something bad happens, stay confident and pretend like nothing happened.

AFTER YOU PERFORM

  1. Acknowledge the audience’s applause by bowing and smiling!
  2. Listen to what the judge has to say and do whatever he/she asks of you.
  3. Thank the judge.
  4. Make sure you take everything that you brought with you home.  Don’t leave anything at the school.

Most of all, don’t forget to HAVE FUN!!!  That’s the whole point of this, so just go and have a good time performing your music!
